Why Have a Breast Augmentation?

The desire for breast augmentation is most often rooted in the feeling that one’s own breasts are too small in proportion to the rest of the body. During puberty, some women’s breasts barely develop, which often causes complexes and other psychological issues for those affected.

Surgical breast augmentation using silicone implants or autologous fat transfer is usually the only way for these women to regain their zest for life and freedom from self-consciousness.

Medical Indications for Breast Augmentation

Apart from aesthetic reasons, there are also medically indicated cases: congenital or acquired breast deformities, asymmetries, differences in volume, mammary aplasia, mammary hypoplasia, Poland syndrome, or the loss of one or both breasts following breast cancer.

Realistic Expectations Are Important

When considering breast augmentation for purely aesthetic reasons, it is very important that the treating physician analyses the psychological motivations behind the patient’s wish. First, it must be ensured that you want the breast augmentation solely of your own accord. Furthermore, the patient must develop a realistic understanding of which options are medically feasible and justifiable.
