There are different techniques of abdominoplasty. The most common is a so-called total abdominoplasty under general anaesthesia or spinal anaesthesia (usually in combination with liposuction). During this surgery, a skin incision is made in the lower abdomen just above the pubic border, which runs laterally along the bikini line upwards. Another incision is made around the navel to detach the skin from the navel and move the navel. The entire skin of the abdominal wall can then be lifted from the abdominal muscles. The abdominal muscles that have moved apart are brought together again and sewn together. Excess skin is removed and a new opening for the navel is formed. After inserting drains, the skin is sutured in several layers. If the problem zone is only below the navel, a smaller operation, a so-called partial abdominoplasty without navel transposition (mini-abdominoplasty) may be sufficient.
